How to keep your Eyes Healthy this Festive Season?

Diwali the festival of lights, happiness and togetherness, where everyone prays for prosperity and the well-being of their loved ones. But often the moment of joy turns into a moment of sadness because of eye injuries that occur mostly due to firecrackers like flower pots, sparkles, bombs etc. One should take adequate care to prevent the occurrence of such injuries during the festive season.

According to an Indian study and research, bombs causes the most number of injuries followed by the flower pots and rockets. The severity of visual injury can range from mild irritation to potential blindness and severe burns due to penetrating injuries. Necessary precautions need to be taken to avoid such injuries.

• Protective glasses
It should be worn by the person who is bursting the crackers as well as the bystanders.

• Lubricants
The smoke from the crackers can cause chronic dry eyes and irritation. Lubricants like carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) can be used to provide temporary relief and are freely available.

• Keep Your Children Safe
Children should be kept at a safe distance from the area where crackers are being burst and should be supervised by adults. They should not be allowed to burst crackers as they are the most prone to injuries.

• Viewing Distance
View fireworks from at least 500 feet away and clear the area of flammable materials.

• For Contact Lens Wearers
Contact lenses are sensitive to heat and can cause severe irritation that’s why wearing contact lenses should be avoided while bursting crackers.
